Nail Trim Policy

Levels of Service and Fees

All nail trims that can be completed easily by one person should be scheduled with the groomer and will cost $18.00.

•  If the groomer cannot complete the nail trim without assistance, then it will need to be scheduled for a later day as a technician appointment.

If a nail trim can be completed by no more than 2 technicians, the pet is not overly anxious, does not resist being restrained for the procedure, and can be completed in less than 10 minutes, the cost will be $22.00.

If the pet requires 3 or more people to complete the nail trim and/or it takes more than 10 minutes, then the cost will be $30.00.

Medication Assisted Nail trims

Calming medications may be recommended for the pet to be given before the next nail trim appointment to aid in alleviating the stress caused by the procedure.

• If the pet is a current patient at Petplex, meaning that there is an established doctor/client/pet relationship and the pet is current on its annual exam:

  • • Pre-visit calming medications can be dispensed as prescribed by a veterinarian either the same day, if possible, or at a later date depending on the situation.

•  If the pet is not a current patient or the annual exam is not current:

  • • An appointment will need to be scheduled with a veterinarian for a complete exam with recommended wellness procedures and to discuss oral calming medications as well as sedated nail trims since this may need to be done in the future.

• Once this is done, then pre-visit calming medications can be selected and prescribed based on the patient’s level of anxiety and resistance to the nail trim procedure. A pre-visit oral medication information sheet will be sent home. A nail trim appointment can then be made with a technician.

  Sedated Nail Trims

  If the nail trim cannot be completed with calming medications, then the nail trim will need to be rescheduled with a veterinarian for a sedated nail trim.

  • The cost of this appointment will include the price of the sedation exam, sedation, nail trim, and anesthetic monitoring. A sedation form describing risks will need to be read and signed by the owner. Costs will vary based on the weight of the pet but will average between $204.00 and $262.00 (actual costs may vary).

   
  Please be aware that it is at the discretion of the safety of our staff as to whether or not a muzzle or e-collar will be placed and you will be notified if this has been done.
